The Power of Women in Tech: Spotlight Reena Vijayanand, Head of HR, AdaniConneX
Conversations around the need for more women in technology have taken center stage today. Its importance grows year by year and the impact existing women tech leaders have made in the industry is not only admirable, but integral in creating a progressive shift.
While NASSCOM has mentioned a positive uptake in recent times, where 36% of India’s tech workforce comprises of women, there is much left to be done to increase the percentage as we go up the corporate ladder.
That’s why the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is so important.
Inspiring inclusion goes beyond just workforce growth. Inclusion of women in all aspects leads to impactful change while providing unique perspectives and creative solutions to society.
AdaniConneX is fortunate to have women and women leaders who not only inspire, but also set great examples of how much potential women have in playing a role in the growth of the data center industry.
Reena Vijayanand is one such trailblazing woman. She is head of human resources at AdaniConneX, with a background richly comprising decades of industry experience. She is well-versed in conversations around encouraging more women to take up tech roles and the importance they have in paving industry roadmaps.
“It’s been about 2 decades of my corporate journey. Being an HR leader and a homemaker at the same time is definitely a huge responsibility.” She says, when asked about her illustrious background and the reality of her journey to where she is today. “I am undoubtedly experiencing the passion of nurturing the Values of belongingness and culture of “ONE TEAM” amongst people in the organization, that are built for the future.”
She shares her thoughts on fostering a culture of inclusion and how we can all be receptive and empathetic to each other’s diverse backgrounds. “There have been many times when I notice others from different backgrounds talk about their unique experiences and I wonder, what gives me a circle of comfort in their presence? Then I realized the answer was mutual understanding and respect.”
Reena strongly believes that inclusion will only be fueled by the reciprocation of respect no matter the background. “If I constantly and genuinely show welcomed behavior, being respectful of opinions regardless of differences and valuing another person’s presence, people will surely reciprocate the same.”
“Inclusivity begins with me.” An important and yet powerful testimony.
When asked about how AdaniConneX empowers a culture of inspiring inclusion and belongingness, she emphasized on the women-led initiative WomenConneX. An organization that’s dedicated to making every woman employee feel included, seen and heard. And give them the platform they need to express their challenges, grow in their careers and find the entrusting support of other incredible women in the organization.
“I am very proud to be a woman leader, but I also feel an equal sense of responsibility.” She continues to say how committed AdaniConneX is to foster a culture of inclusivity.
The future of women in technology is powerful, bright and advancing. AdaniConneX wishes a different kind of empowerment to the women leaders of tomorrow. Where they not only grow the company’s mission, but also pioneer innovations and initiatives that can change and progress the course of the data center industry for the whole nation.
